Dripping Springs ISD School Zones Update: What Parents Should Know (2025–26)

Dripping Springs ISD School Zones Update – What Parents Should Know

Dripping Springs ISD has finalized new elementary and middle school attendance zones that will take effect beginning with the 2025-26 school year. These changes are part of a broader effort to balance campus enrollments and mitigate overcrowding across the district. Here’s everything parents need to know.

What’s Changing

  • New zones were approved in December 2024, covering several elementary and middle schools.

  • Elementary School #6, located in the Headwaters neighborhood, is under construction and included in the rezoning plan. It will help shift student populations and relieve pressure on overcrowded campuses.

  • Sycamore Springs Middle School is being expanded to increase its capacity from 850 students to 1,200 to accommodate growth.

Which Schools Are Affected

These elementary schools are part of the attendance zone update:

  • Cypress Springs Elementary

  • Dripping Springs Elementary

  • Rooster Springs Elementary

  • Sycamore Springs Elementary

  • Walnut Springs Elementary

  • Wildwood Springs Elementary

Middle schools under the updated zones are:

  • Sycamore Springs Middle School

  • Dripping Springs Middle School

High school zoning remains centered on Dripping Springs High School at 940 Highway 290 West.

Why These Changes Were Made

The district outlined several reasons behind the rezoning:

  • Overcrowding at some elementary schools, especially Dripping Springs Elementary and Walnut Springs.

  • Under-enrollment at other campuses, particularly on the east side such as Cypress Springs, Rooster Springs, and Sycamore Springs.

  • Anticipated student growth in certain neighborhoods, which will place increasing demands on school capacity.

  • Recommendations from an attendance zoning committee composed of community members, parents, and staff, who spent months developing maps, gathering feedback, and finalizing boundaries.

Grandfathering & Transition Options

If your child is being rezoned, there are grandfathering options to consider:

  • Rising fourth and fifth graders may request to stay at their current elementary school, even if their zone changes.

  • Siblings may also be eligible under certain conditions.

  • For middle school, rising 7th and 8th graders who are rezoned to Sycamore Springs may request to remain at Dripping Springs Middle School.

  • Families must apply by deadlines set by the district; in some cases, a lottery system may be used if a campus is over capacity.

What Parents Should Do Now

  1. Check your address on the district’s new attendance maps to see your assigned campus for 2025-26.

  2. If affected by rezoning and you wish to stay at your current school, review the grandfathering guidelines and submit a transfer application before the deadline.

  3. Plan ahead for changes in transportation or drop-off routines if your school assignment is changing.

  4. Stay updated through district communications for transition activities and future facility updates.

The DSISD zoning changes are significant, designed to address both current needs and long-term growth. Families are encouraged to review their new school assignments, explore grandfathering options if applicable, and prepare for a smooth transition into the 2025-26 school year.
